Weekly Spotlight Conversation with Kristine G.

Updated: May 21

In this week's Weekly Spotlight Conversation, I have the great pleasure to introduce Kristine to our segment. She has surprised me in wonderful ways (I explain below). Kristine is also one of the most self-disciplined and well balanced people I know. When you hang around her, there is always calm. People like her really attract the right energy! I first got to know Kristine through an event I organised in 2018, and learnt that she had flown from Norway to attend a tiny weekender (which left a really strong first impression to begin with). Then, in 2019, I noticed that she had signed up for our Zouk Junior Team recruitment sheet, and I instantly thought she was trolling me. I mean, this was the pre-Zoom era so I didn't know how she was going to train! =P Much to my surprise, Kristine actually turned up for class and a whole 12 months of training with her turned out to be a really wonderful and we developed a genuine connection. To summarise this whole crazy story I have with her, she finished up her 1 year work stint in Singapore the day after her Saturday performance at Zouk Sensation 2020, to make it back into the Norwegian office on Monday morning by a 13 hour flight.

Talk about dedication!! 2019 was truly a unique year with Kristine. It felt like a time capsule =)

Q: How long have you been dancing Zouk? Around 5 years: on and off :)

Q: When/where did you start dancing Zouk/other latin dances? My background is jazz :) never danced any couple dance before I discovered Zouk

Q: Your favourite Zouk project/event/classes thus far? Nothing can’t beat the energy and number of socials at Singapore Zouk Sensation and Bootcamp.

Q: Why do you enjoy it so much? I think that Zouk is a very multidimensional dance offering many styles - Rio, Neo, Lambada, Contemporary, RnB etc - and it continues to evolve every year. It is also one of the few couple dances that allows leading without a physical connection/contact.

Q: What is your favourite part about Zouk/Zouk community? I love that Zouk offers variety of styles and I can use my jazz background in some of them.

Q: What would you like to see more in SG Zouk scene or personal Zouk goals? More people at socials not just classes :) and my personal goal is to improve the single foot spinning technique

Q: What do you do by day and how do you balance between your job and Zouk? Dancing Zouk in Singapore is fairly easy as most practicing takes over the weekend, avoiding clashes with work :)

Q: Any fun trivia facts about you? My eyes are of different colours!

Q: Who are some of your favourite Zouk dancers/Teachers? William and Paloma; Thayna and Leo; Bruno and Raiza

Q: Share a zouk video that you really like There are two :)
